It's a bit ironic how articles like this promote the RPi as a "powerful,
stunningly low-cost PC", just like a "traditional PC motherboard", only smaller.
Then when the buyers complain on the RPi.org forum that web browsing is slower
than their smart phone, they are told "what did you expect for $35."
I do think some people are expecting more than the Pi can currently deliver, and being told it is a 'PC' is going to put all sorts of expectations in people's heads.
It also doesn't help, like you say, when the forum mods there say it can do everything, 'but sometimes a bit slower'. No in most cases it is a *lot* slower. They really don't help their cause a lot in my opinion, as I posted on the thread complaining about speed, I recently bought a 2nd user base unit for £25 delivered, and that is more than capable of running what most people would want or need and at a speed most people would be OK with. But the Compaq unit I bought and the Pi are two totally different beasts. As soon as the mods on the forum accept that and don't go on the defensive every time someone posts something slightly negative but still factual then I think people will begin to understand what they are buying.
