Raspberry Pi Map!

ryanteck
ryanteck over 13 years ago

A couple of days ago I decided to make an map to show where Raspberry Pis were, the project is now complete image

The map so far has got 66 Pis (From the time of this post) and is constantly growing!

You can add your pi @ http://rastrack.ryanteck.org.uk, I have checked with the foundation about the map and they say it is fully ok.

I hope to see you add your pis!

Zooming all the way out is interesting, as the new coloured aggregate icons show the number of Pis in each area.  At this moment, I'm seeing 147+378=525 in North America and 2916 in Western Europe, which I find quite surprising.

When you zoom in to Europe, the hostspot of red icons always remains centred on the UK.  Since there was no preferential allocation to orders from the UK, this might mean either that promotion and media exposure was much higher in the UK than in most other places, or that the ordering system worked best (or failed least often) in the UK.  Or possibly both.

There's definitely a huge difference between UK and US which doesn't correlate to population sizes, and is far outside statistical noise.  Interesting.

Interested to see that at the moment (5291 total) it looks like the highest local concentration of Pis in the US is on the east coast, specifically New Jersey, followed by Massachusetts. SF Bay Area (Silicon Valley) in CA comes in third. Of course if there really are 85k units out there, the map is sampling only 6.2% of the total so maybe there is a difference in the self-selection factor of who posted their Pi. (also assuming all the entries are genuine, which from looking at reported dates & info I believe is at least somewhat false)
