Problems with initial boot up

I've had no luck with starting my Pi, I've tried both Debian and Arch Linix downloads off the website, on different SD cards, and tried booting up the Pi but I am coming up with almost different messages each time but nothing works. The most common message it keeps coming up with is "Kernel Panic - not syncing: Fatal Exception in interrupt" . I'm at my whits end and the Pi is going to be put on ebay pretty soon, if I don't make some headway! I've been downloading and redownloading files all day. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I dont have Pi, but what I have see so far is if the power supply is not good enough, it can maybe the problem, try booting without USB device to see if its related to the power. If it boot without message, its maybe your keyboard or mouse take too much power from the 5v power supply

Reuben,
Farnell has been very good about promptly replacing faulty units,
no questions asked. You really aren't expected to spend lots of
time and money trying to troubleshoot a $35 device, although some
people enjoy doing that, and in some cases have been able to get
a working system by trying different power supplies, power leads,
SD cards, keyboards, etc. But even then, they may have been better off
getting a replacement that works with a wider range of accessories,
or is less flaky, if for example, the problem was a polyfuse with unusually
high resistance.
