Problems with initial boot up

I've had no luck with starting my Pi, I've tried both Debian and Arch Linix downloads off the website, on different SD cards, and tried booting up the Pi but I am coming up with almost different messages each time but nothing works. The most common message it keeps coming up with is "Kernel Panic - not syncing: Fatal Exception in interrupt" . I'm at my whits end and the Pi is going to be put on ebay pretty soon, if I don't make some headway! I've been downloading and redownloading files all day. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

  • I just got my RPi on Thursday. I prepped for months and had two power supplies, one Blackberry 700mA and one generic 1000mA I got off of eBay. They both work up to a point.

     

    The Blackberry power supply is consistent, I guess because of quality.  I'm having problems with the Wifi adapter which appears to have the drivers loaded but from time to time drops off, though it never can connect to an AP. I believe this is power related.

     

    As for the general 1A power supply, I can't even boot properly with the wifi adapter inserted and sometimes even with the Ethernet cable inserted. I guess it can provide up to 1A, but not consistently.  Bought from a UK based eBay seller, so is quality an issue?

     

    Anyways, I'm waiting on a offer I made on eBay for a powered 7-port hub.  It's a version I've seen at least a half dozen times on blogs or forums where the users seem to be happy with it.  Maybe this will solve the power issues. My problem is that now I'll be having more and more cables running around.
