Ready for more testing: SPI enabled kernel.

rew

I've done some work on the driver originally written by A Robinson<arobinson@cs.man.ac.uk>. I've implemented a few missing things and removed a bug or two.

Those that want this can test this, Both the patch and a binary kernel image are available for download linked from our WIKI.

http://www.bitwizard.nl/wiki/index.php/Raspberry_pi_spi_kernel

Things you might want to connect to your SPI bus on the raspberry pi can be bought at our shop: http://www.bitwizard.nl/catalog/ .

(The easiest way to start is with the rpi_serial board, which has the SPI bus in the same pinout as the expansion boards. )

Comments, bug reports etc etc. are welcome.

Requests for other boards are welcome as well. We'll look into making them.

I'll build a program for interfacing with the other boards tomorrow. (Mostly removing things from the program that displays things on the LCD).

    Hi Roger,

Thank you for your work! Your binary kernel's SPI functionality works (although there is a couple of issues), but with one I've built using your patch does not.

When I insert the module I get an error that the chipselect is already in use and spidev0.x cannot be created. Am I missing something?

I'm ready to perform extensive testing and possibly improvement of the driver (although I do not have much experience in kernel driver development).

    Thanks!

Sergey, there seem to be several independent people working on SPI stuff.

Last I heard the debian wheezy distribution comes with the latest kernel, and that the latest kernel already has SPI support enabled. Someone else AGAIN wrote another SPI kernel driver. We'll have to check that one out to see if it works as good as this one and doesn't have these defects.....

Well, I've downloaded the official public beta "wheezy" 2012-06-18 [1] - it comes with 3.1.9+ kernel and no SPI...
