Dont know if this has been posted but tought it would share it with all the Pi lovers. Its a breakout kit by addafruit  allows the PI's GPIO, I2C and SPI pins to be connected to a solderless breadboard.  Here is te link http://www.adafruit.com/products/914.  Let me know what you guys think

Thanks for that link Nate it looks great. Non/novice iron users will love it. I like the name too. Raspberry cobbler is a great dessert. image Adafruit do seem pretty keen on good hardware support for the Pi.

You may not need all the pins, GND and +3V3 are repeated several times.

I found individual jumper cables like these http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9385 a much better option.

In case you want something similar from Adafruit here you go http://www.adafruit.com/products/793

Not a problem Ray.  Your option will do the same jamadio but requires a little bit more knowledge.

It's a great product, I wanted them to call it a slice of Pi but apparently their is a product out that uses that name.

Best of all you can replace the male header pins with a female header socket, making the device more arduino like,

where you can just drop a wire into the header to connect up whatever you please

The problem with buying from Adafruit is the postage to the UK. For a breakout box which is $7.99 the recomended postage is $39.00 unless you want it quicker then it is $82.00.

May be if an number of us want to buy from them we should get together and share postage ?

We really could do with a UK supplier especially as the RPi is British !

Here's Adafruit's distributors page -- http://www.adafruit.com/distributors/ -- and if one enables all the *#%&! Javascript required by Google Maps, it turns out that we have 3 Adafruit distributors in the UK:

    • Oomlout, Halifax HX3 5QN (map says Leeds) -- http://oomlout.co.uk/
    • Phenoptix, Nottingham <no location revealed> -- http://www.phenoptix.com/
    • Proto-Pic, Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland, KY1 3PF -- http://proto-pic.co.uk/

I've not used any of them yet, but I'm likely to do so before long.  Although Proto-Pic is the furthest away from me, their site shows stock levels which is important if one wants next-day delivery (I do).

    Morgaine.

I've had tons of stuff from Proto-Pic, first-class service with tracked deliveries emailing you with a one-hour timeslot for your next-day delivery. Oomlout do an awesome Arduino Experimenter's Kit, with lots of components to play with and great comprehensive tutorials, well worth considering for the same Pi-owners who might also be considering this breadboard cobbler kit with the intention of exploring electronics - Arduino Experimenter's Kit is IMO a better place to start than leaping into it with the Pi.  Both Proto-Pic and Oomlout are good at linking datasheets and tutorials for the stuff they sell.  However the only one of these currently carrying the Cobbler breakout is Phenoptix, never used them yet, but it's promising that the Pi cobbler kit is on their front page and they've a nascent 'Raspberry Pi' section, so far with only that one item in it.  http://www.phenoptix.com/index.php/front-page-products/adafruit-pi-cobbler-breakout-kit-for-raspberry-pi-for-easy-breadboarding.html

Have just today received a Raspberry Pi enclosure from Adafruit, they're a terrific little company but unfortunately it's really not an easy path ordering direct from them for delivery to UK - I ordered their clear Pi enclosure and the 26-pin ribbon cable (same as the cable with this cobbler breakout), the goods came to $18.90 but with shipping included it came to $31.53 - and, Adafruit printed the $31.53 full invoice total on the customs declaration sheet instead of the $18.90 actual value of goods, which meant my parcel sat in UK customs for two weeks, attracted £4 in VAT, and an additional £8 "handling fee" from the robbing pirates of the Customs & Excise.  I'll be delighted to order Adafruit items again, but only from UK distributors in future I think - none of whom carry the case I wanted.
