Will this USB charger work with my Raspberry Pi?

It is a Motorola charger that came with my phone. Model: DC4050US0301. On the back it says INPUT: 100 - 240v ~ 50/6Hz 0.2A OUTPUT: 5.1V 850MA. It is the type with a USB port that you plug the USB cable into. Will it work? I'm concerned about the extra .1 volt.

Hi Brandon,

5.1V is within the USB spec and won't be a problem. There are some more insights into why a charger may be designed for above 5.0V in this thread: Re: "Best Power Supply for the Raspberry Pi"?

According to the spec (i.e., assuming the charger's manufacturer isn't lying to you) it should work. RasPi is supposed to work with any USB power supply. USB's voltage spec is 5.0V +/- 5% which varies from 4.75V to 5.25V. Having an extra 0.1 volt is a good thing since you will probably get a small voltage drop across your USB micro cable and across RasPi's polyfuse F3.
