Raspberry Pi can't remove micro USB power cable

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

When I got my RasPi I was so excited that I used the first micro USB cable I could find to power it up.

The cable works but I cannot unplug it!  I've already put more pressure on the micro USB port than I feel comfortable doing.

Has anyone else had this problem or know of a solution?

Thanks!

Dan

A Micro USB plug has two tiny clips on the wide surface which mate with two holes in RasPi's USB jack S1.  Here's a fairly high resolution photo of a Micro USB plug at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:MicroB_USB_Plug.jpg.  Normally those two clips are triangular so you can pull the plug out with some side-to-side wiggling.  I think in your case one or both clips are bent in such a way that you cannot pull the cable out.  See if you can push the clip down with a precision screwdriver or other small object while you gently wiggle the plug sideways as you pull it out.  You may need a helper with small hands.

This helped, thank you so much!

The problem seems to be in the micro USB port on the RasPi.  The cable doesn't get stuck in any of my other devices that use a micro USB cable.  I plugged it into the RasPi again and had the same problem.  However, now only one side of the plug is stuck, the other side will wiggle a little bit.

Thank you! I was trying to remove the cable with many different small "objects" and it didn't work. In the end the side-to-side wiggle solved the problem!

    Greetings,

    Jakob
