Gui not launching during startx with debian 6 for linux on sd card from element14

I am trying to get my Raspberry Pi started and have run into an error. My Pi came with an sd card from element14 that says Includes Debian 6 for Linux Ideal for Raspberry Pi. It loaded up fine once but it was in the overscan diable mode so i re configured it and it started having the following error when i try to run the startx command  and wont go into the gui because of it. i am not sure what to do is there some way to reset this to get it back to where i initially need to configure it? Any help will be awesome!

The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:

>Error:                              No KeyNames named "qwerty" in the include file "aliases"

>                                      Exiting

>                                      Abandoning keycodes file "default"

Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server

XKB: Failed to compile keymap

Keyboard initialization failed. This could be a missing or incorrect setup of xkeyboard-config.

Fatal server error:

Falied to activate core devices

Some people have had issues with the older software. Without knowing what you changed or any backup, you may be better off downloading and installing the current version.  Raspbian wheezy is a newer Debian version, or there are other choices on http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads

With whatever tool you use, make sure you write the image to the SD card itself, not just to a partition on it.  It is a complete system including mbr, partition table, a /boot partition (which you can see from Windows) and the main / partition (which Windows cannot read).  The resulting partitions may not fill the card, but you will be given on option on first boot (or later running: sudo raspi-config) to expand the main partition to fill the card (if you do not know how to do that from Linux on another system).

If you have another SD card, you may want to try one of the XBMC versions for the Raspberry Pi.  My experience so far with Raspbmc is that many of the add-ons don't seem to work yet, but some do.  For example I am able to view PBS internet videos, but others I have tried have not worked.  I have been able to play mp3 music files, but some of the internet radio add-ons do not work.  I have been using Linux for about 18 years, but totally unfamiliar with XBMC.
