Connecting to Internet (model B wired)

Former Member
Former Member over 12 years ago

i am trying to connect my raspberry pi model B to the internet using the ethernet port to my BT home hub. when i turn the pi on, 2 extra lights are illuminated on its circuit board. so i know that it is connected. but then when i try to open the web browser, it comes up with a message and doesn't do anything else. i am using the NetSurf browser. i am wondering if it is the password on the hub. i know it, but i dont know how to imput it. do you need to? help as soon as possible, please.image

You don't need a password or encryption code when 'wired' to your router/server, only for 'wireless' to prevent eavesdropping.

Both of my RPi's aquired the internet without any special effort on my part, when using the ethernet connection. (as far as I recall)

Pi assumes that it will be allocated a network address dynamically by the router/server.

If this is not the case, then Chapter 4 in the 'Raspberry Pi Users Guide' describes how to set a fixed address within Pi.

Tho' it may be that you only need to tell your router/server to use DHCP.

    Another old novice.

PS. I used midori as the browser.
