Card setup via Windows 7, using Win32DiskImager.

Not connected to LAN

Keyboard/mouse connected via Logitec USB Wireless - problem occurrs irrespective of this being connected

HDMI connected LG TV

I get the following warnings/errors : (not complete)

VFS: Cannot open root device "mmcblk0p2" or unknow-block(179,2)

Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions:

b300 30908416 mmcblk0 driver: mmcblk

Kernel panic - not syncingL VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(179,2)

... loads of other messages..... eventually

PANIC: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(179,2)

Entering kdb due to Keyboard Entry (this is arrived at even without a keyboard plugged in)

kdb> (BUT I CANT actually input anything)

This happens on 2 R Pi units.

I have also tried a different image - 2012-09-18.img no look.

I've seen this error when a file isnt in the location that is specified.  I've also heard of Win32DiskImage causing corruption in the card.   Here is a good tuturial on setting up the sd card http://elinux.org/RPi_Easy_SD_Card_Setup

    hope this helps!

While I've never used it myself, I have heard of people having problems with Win32DiskImager.  One cause is using a built-in SD Card reader instead of an external USB-based SD Card reader, or you may have a bad version of Win32DiskImager.  Here's a typical thread from raspberrypi.org: Windows 7, win32diskimager not working!  I suggest entering "Win32DiskImager" in the search box at the top of this page and on the front page at raspberrypi.org.

It's also possible that your particular SD Card is bad.

Ditch the CL10 cards and get a few CL4. I've not had one CL10 card that works although I haven't tried very many.

I've also had trouble with every Verbatim 4GB CL4 card that I tried. I have used quite a few SanDisk 8GB CL4 cards without any issues.

That is true, Ive seen many folks complaint abbout CL10 cards not working, apparently its very dificult to setup a CL10 and many people prefer the CL4, even pages like sparkfun and adafruit sells CL4 to use with the RPi.

Best bet use CL4 cards and ditch the CL10 till fruther notice.

Have you tried downloading NOOBS instead? Previously I have had problems writing wheezy to some SD cards, but the problem goes when I have used NOOBS instead.
