One of my "Pi-compatible" HDMI/VGA Adaptors doesn't work to my display.

I have 2 HDMI/VGA adaptors, both certified compatible with Raspberry Pi by their supplier, but only the second listed below works between my Pi and a Proview RV729/700P display.

I have used the parameter "hdmi_safe=1" in config.txt, but that is not sufficient with the first adaptor.  Any ideas what other config parameters might need changing for this to work ?

This one displays nothing:

http://www.minifo.com/en/hdmi-to-vga-adapter.html

This one works fine, displaying 28 lines of 74 characters:

    It seems that many HDMI -> VGA adapters require various config.txt settings.  There's useful lore at the RasPi Hardware Wiki: http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeripherals#HDMI-.3EVGA_converter_boxes

    my config has only the following "active" lines in it (the rest are comented out) without the "hdmi_mode=16" i was only getting a blank screen on my monitor using a china made adaptor try the below config and see what happens.

    framebuffer_width=1024

    framebuffer_height=768

    console-width=1024

    console-height=768

    # uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (this will force VGA)

    hdmi_group=1

    hdmi_mode=16

    Many thanks for the advice; I would really like to make some progress with this( as opposed to recycling several

    perfectly good VGA screens).

    I am having trouble with this.  I would like to confirm the use of underscore after framebuffer and minus after console

    (before I brick my configuration), but I can find no documentation of any options beginning with the keyword "console".

    Is there a definitive description somewhere of all the options supported in config.txt ?

    P.S.  I've found references to the framebuffer options in http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt.

    Tests completed.   The display shows a large alert box with the message "display mode not supported".  It then functions just as it did with my previous config.txt, apart from the alert box hiding the central part of the screen. I guess that it is falling back to some default mode.  This is with the "approved"  Pi-View converter from Element14, no reason to try the doubtful converter after that result.

    try reducing the resolution using the below

    framebuffer_width=640

    framebuffer_height=480

    console-width=640

    console-height=480

    # uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (this will force VGA)

    hdmi_group=1

    hdmi_mode=16

    I suspect the monitor cant handle the higher resolutiions
