The power plug on my new Pi is loose. Having the plug come out is a nuisance, file corrupting and can't be great for the electronics. Given that it appears to be a proprietary plug, what is the best way of tightening the jack? TIA

is it the the plug on the board near the capacitor which is the problem (sorry i just need to make sure im thinking of the right thing).
The power socket S1 on RasPi is a standard Micro USB receptacle. The tiny clips that hold the plug into the socket are on the plug at the end of the Micro USB cable -- the socket just has rectangular holes for holding the plug's clips. Your problem is more likely a bad clip on your USB cable's plug, not RasPi's socket. Micro USB is designed so that the plug is more likely to break than the socket, figuring it's cheaper to replace a USB cable than a USB device.
It may be that your Micro USB cable's plug just has flattened clips and it might be possible to bend them back up with a pin. It's also possible that S1 is broken or out of alignment, but that's unlikely given its simplicity. Take a look at both with a good magnifier.
