What Model of Pi do I have?

A friend a while ago gave me a Raspberry Pi. I really like it because it's fun to use just for kicks outside of using a Windows machine. But I have two questions. First, and the main one, how do I tell which model of Pi do I have. Two how to I connect the Pi to a shared folder from my Windows 7 computer?

I think that the easiest way of telling what model you have is to look for holes for mounting screws. The first version didn't have any, the later ones do.

Mine doesn't have mounting holes on it so I guess it's model A?

No, it means it is an older Model 'B'.

Model As have mounting holes but no ethernet jack and only one USB connector (instead of two one above the other).

Let me guess, that model didn't have a lot of ram on it right? Like the 256MB models?

Yes, earlier Model B's had only 256 MB of RAM. Newer ones, 512MB. The memory size was not changed at the same time as the mounting holes were added if I recall correctly.

No you're thinking of the Model A. It's confusing. The Model B came out first, so all older boards had ethernet and two USB ports.

Only later Model A boards have the ethernet and second USB socket removed. They are slightly cheaper, but the reason most people buy them is because they use quite a bit less current and so are better for battery powered projects.
