Hi All,
Has anyone here used the above adapter with RPi? Seems only 2.4Ghz band is supported but not 5.0Ghz as when I tried using the 5.0Ghz band the RPi did not see my router at all. Any help?
Thanks,
Clemzky

Dear Clemzky,
Before buying did you see any advertisement stating that it would work with Linux?
A device is more or less worthless without a driver. So manufacturers make sure they provide drivers for popular operating systems. For some manufacturers that's " the latest Microsoft Windows" operating system. For others that includes Linux. If the manufacturer does not provide a driver, some smart guy may pop up somewhere and write a driver for Linux. If that doesn't happen, then there simply isn't a driver and your device is back to square one: mostly worthless.
This MIGHT be the case with your wireless adapter. To be able to see if this might be the case we need the output of: "sudo lsusb -v"
On the other hand, getting wireless to work is not always easy. I've managed a few times, but I'm not an expert of doing it properly. So I'll let this one to others.
Hi Roger,
Thanks again for the reply, yes I read that, my very first post here was about how to connect to internet with my very first RPi , I was using a D-Link 2.4Ghz wifi dongle and manage to run it, in fact it is with my other RPi running the Apache and a database now this unit was the one with the issue you solve for me yesterday. The 5Ghz adapter is for my desktop actually and since I am playing with the other new RPi, I tried using the 5Ghz adapter and there you go, swapped it with the 2.4Ghz and works.
Thanks,
Clem
Dear Clem,
Did you manage with the DWA-171, because I didn't
Kind regards

Hi Daniel,
No it is only on 2.4GHz.
Thanks,
Clemzky
Daniel I tried the D-Link DWA-171 with no success - I bought it as much for my PC in my Office since I have moved the router to the lounge room where pi is connected to TV. I successfully had been using the DWA-131 which was picked up automatically. So the 171 is back on the PC and the 131 is on the Pi again works quite adequately.
For the record, I have lodged a submission to D-Link re Linux drivers for the 171. There were none on the CD that came with the adapter. They have acknowledged receipt of submission and have indicated they will get back to me.
