Raspi 2 sure is a finicky bit of tech.

Boy, a few of my microSDs that worked on my version 1 don't work on the version 2.  Aand this after I followed instructions for once!

I got it running with Openelec though.

Thanks E14 for the free Raspi2!

Check out See my new Pi 2, next what should we do? If you want to try some others. There is a mini Rasbian you can download being only 87 MBytes in my last comment. Ignore the cirrus support.

If you had followed directions you would have known that micro SDs from version 1 don't work on version 2.

Even though you got it working, you will benefit from reading this (everyone needs to read it!):

But the components from other models can run on Raspberry 2 ?

Yes. The RPi 2 is the same footprint, size shape, fits the b+ case, can use the camera, has the same 40 pinouts uses the same usb options (wipi, etc) its compatible with the b+

But, the SD card needs to be setup for the RPi 2. I recommend NOOBS (1.4... for the RPi 2) and load Raspbian. Don't try to use your RPi b+ SD card in the RPi 2.

Gee, sorry Mark.  Maybe I should have prefaced it with I STARTED WITH A BRAND NEW CARD AND ONLY GOT ONE OF MY V1 CARDS TO WORK.

    better?

The issue is simply that Linux distros (E.g. Raspbian) tend to update the file system mounted at / with hardware information.  That is why you should save your critical personal files on to a USB stick, rebuild the MicroSD, and re-install.  You can even rebuild  on Pi 2 from an old img file using `dd`, just like you did originally.

Think of it this way: Would you ever plug an existing HDD or SSD into a new computer as-is and expect it to work?  Same idea.

Well, good;  then you don't have a problem, and DON'T SHOUT (please)

You cannot expect anyone to answer the question you meant to ask... really?... think, then speak. I have found that when the RPi does not work it was because the user did not follow directions, just plugged things in, and then wondered what those two solid green and red LEDs mean (while the PI sits there and does nothing).  Then, they post a question wondering why it doesn't work the way they expected.   Well, its because the PI works the way it was designed, not the way you expected. On the other hand, the users would understand the expectations if they would take the time to read the directions (first).

But I am glad that you were able to get things running.  image

The Raspberry 2 has a different core, so the binary code on the SD cards is incompatible, the cards will physically work, just not the data on them. You will need to format the card that you used in RasberryPi B+ and install a new RaspberryPi 2 image.

Mm.  I don't see a question anywhere in my OP.

Be that as it may, I've been using open source and FreeBSD since the mid-90s.  You make the assumption that I didn't read the instructions.  Well, I did.  I assume you didn't look for an actual question.

    Lets agree to disagree.image

In response to your title, that it is a bit finicky.  My role was to simply inform yourself and  future readers of why that may have been the case. I also assume everyone else has done the same, attempt to shed light on why a very stable and easy to use platform could be referred to as finicky. User error.

Like you said lets agree to disagree.
