Noise Issues on Raspberry Pi A+

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

Hello All - I just purchase the element14 Pi A+ at microcenter and am having a noise issue with the board. Immediately upon power up the 1/8 output is extremely noisy, to the point that it would be useless for my application (soundfont player) Also there's all sort of weird aliasing on the audio, particularly on the low end. Does anyone else have this issue, or is it possible that it's just my board and it's defective? Do you think the HDMI out would fare any better?  Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Best,

Bob

Hello Bob, unfortunately it is true. I had the same problem and I was obliged to dedicate a Raspberry PI (B+) to the audio output with a Cirrus Logic Audio Card that instead works perfectly. As the problem with this card is the need of a non-upgradable and dedicated version of the raspian Linux (at least until the actual date), if you plan to make and / or install something special I suggest to check if it is possible to be done before equipping - eventually - the PI with this board. It is a really great board but the real-time kernel really is a great limitation in such case.

Hi Enrico - Thanks for the info, are you referring to the HiFiBerry board? Clearly my lack of experience with all of this is going to get me into some trouble. image  I appreciate such a responsive community. I thought my post was going to be a tree falling in the woods (no one heard it, doesn't exist) so it's nice to see. Thanks much!

No ( I have not read about this board until now image) I refer to the former Wolfson technologies Cirus Logic (see the product link : http://www.element14.com/community/community/raspberry-pi/raspberry-pi-accessories/cirrus_logic_audio_card ), specific version for the Raspberry PI. If you have in mind to acquire one, let me know that some tricks I have discovered may save a lot of time image
