Cirrus ADC in PureData?

Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

Hello everyone!

I've been trying to make ADC work inside puredata withouth success.

I can get sound out of the DAC with good quality, but get no signal when i plug something in the line-in.

I tried to mess with alsa-mixer in the terminal, also with no success...

I'm a noob on linux and pi, so maybe i'm just missing something elemental....

I used the SD card image provided by element14 with the cirrus drivers,

and followed this instructions to install PD:

JTUS - Journey To Unknown Soundscapes: PureData (pd-extended) on Raspi2 with Cirrus Logic Card

When i make a simple patch attaching the ADC to the DAC object, i get no sound, neither using the test audio patch provided by PD.

I bouth Raspi and Cirrus mainly for processing line-in audio, so right now i'm kind of frustrated...

what am a missing?

anyone found this same situation or knows how to help me?

thank you very much!

    Did you patch the kernel?

No i didn't... i just used the img file from element14.

So i need to patch the kernel for realtime i guess?

Is it a must for working with adc, otherwise input is not working?

Any valuable link on how to do it?

i find many possible instructions for it, and don't know which should match better my needs

sorry for my ignorance... i'm just starting to put my head inside this hole....

What do you mean by "messing with alsa mixer in the terminal"?

To configure the card to record from linein and to playback to lineout you just have to use the "usecase scripts":

    Reset_paths.sh
    Playback_to_Lineout.sh
    Record_from_lineIn.sh

Then try if both recording and playback actually work:

    arecord -f cd | aplay

The latter command should playback the signal from line-in to line-out.

BTW: Instead of using the rather old image from the element14 site you're better off using a current Raspbian (Jessie) image plus my kernel. Instructions are on my website RPi Linux driver for Wolfson / Cirrus Logic Audio Card and in this thread: Driver fixes and updates to kernel 3.18.16 and 4.0.5

    so long,

    Hias
