Alternative for powerboost 500

Hello,

I was searching for a cheaper alternative for the powerboost 500 and/or 1000. I came across this question on the forum but without an actual answer to it.

Basically i have a pi zero which i want to power with a lipo battery and add a charger board that can both charge the battery and be used as the power supply. I want to build an emulator machine that can but plugged into the wall while we play at home or that can be battery powered if i want to play it on the bus.

like i mentioned, the previous post I found about this question was referring to this board:

I'm not quite sure about the output pins, would they be b+, b- to charge the battery and out+, out- for the load?

Also, if anyone has any other inexpensive alternative I'm all ears.

Hi Pier,

The module you've linked to will only do half the job; it will charge up a LiPo cell to 4.2V, but I think it won't convert to 5V. You'd also need a step-up DC-DC converter to provide you with 5V, or an all-in-one charger and DC-DC converver board maybe like this one. I don't know if 1A is sufficient for the pi-zero, nor if the board will actually supply 5V 1A or not, it was just the first one I saw on ebay.

Great thanks! this is a good step for me. i'll start searching for dc-dc converter and how to have it fit for my project.
