Former Member
Former Member over 9 years ago

Hi everyone.

Just got my raspberri pi 3 model b with the 7 in touch display...

Im having difficulty setting the lcd to 800x480

Its still set to 1080 for some reason and im not getting full screen...

I tried

Sudo nano /boot/config.txt

And i un-hashed disable_overscan=1

Still no prevail

Besides that i added

lcd_rotate=2

Because the lcd case is upside down...

How can i set the pi lcd output to 800x480 resolution?

    Hi John,

    it is a bit messy because I think that the information on this part of the settings are strictly related to Linux and are not easy to search. I had similar problems in past with a PI2 but I suppose that the information are always the same as this is bare Linux settings (so Debian inherited) and not specially dedicated to the Pi.

    The following link will explain you a lot about this problem and others: RPiconfig - eLinux.org

    Instead just to test a shortcut (I have not yet tested on the PI3) you can try to change the following settings:

    overscan_left=24
    overscan_right=24
    Overscan_top=10
    Overscan_bottom=24

    Framebuffer_width=800
    Framebuffer_height=480

    Sdtv_mode=2
    Sdtv_aspect=2

    What it is important is that you are aware of the meaning of all the parameters that are involved int he screen settings (orientation, overscan, resolution, ramebuffer etc...) Note that the framebuffer w/h should work also for 320x240 screen size.

    Enrico

    This should not be happening, with the latest firmware / OS image (Last few versions really), the LCD being the official PI one should configure perfectly right out of the box and should display full screen (With the exception of the upside down bit that is easy to remediate

    I have had to tweek things with non official displays that connect via the HDMI but then there's no surprise there.

    Have you tried the latest image from Raspberrypi.org and what was the result ?. If you got an SD card with the PI, don't trust it is the latest image, download the latest and re-flash the SD card.

    Peter
