connect pi V3 to gertboard V1

I am very much a newbie to the Pi and some time ago I bought an original Gertboard to play with.  I assembled the Gertboard but then domestic problems caused me to lay the project aside.

I now have purchased a new Pi (V3) and when I went to connect the two I found that the connectors had changed from the original ribbon cable to a direct connection.

I would still like to use my old Gertboard with my new Pi, but I am afraid to guess at the connection required - is it possible to do this please?

Actually these are phased out https://www.sparkfun.com/products/retired/11773 and replaced with v2 http://raspi.tv/2013/v2-gertboard-photos-and-initial-impressions or the PiFace if analog is not needed.

The first 26 pins on the Pi 3 interface connector are the same as the 26 pins on the Gertboard interface connector so as long as you make sure

to connect pin 1 on the cable from the Gertboard to pin 1 of the connector of the Pi it will be OK. The Gertboard test software written for the

original Pis will not work on the Pi 3 ( or Pi 2) because a couple of the I/O pins were changed and the addresses of the I/O pins and other interfaces

(serial, I2C, SPI) was changed when they started shipping with 1 GB of RAM. The different addresses used and the pin changes should be fairly

easily to fix in the test software.

    Hi Gary,

Many thanks for this; as I've said to Clem, I can now connect up my old board with some confidence that it won't go up in smoke.

    Thanks again,

    Pat
