RPi 3 A/V out

cloud12077
cloud12077 over 6 years ago

I'm new to the forums, but I have been reading through other posts and I can't seem to find the solution.

I'm trying to get A/V out working. HDMI works just fine, but this pi will be for my niece and her TV doesn't have any HDMI.

Based on the following diagram my camcorder cable will work using the right audio (red). I have even tested with my multimeter and verified my A/V cable does in fact follow the camcorder SRRT.

Diagram

While the HDMI is disconnected I have tried the following:

Hold 3 during boot up

Hold 4 during boot up

Tried each RCA plug as video during boot up (just in case)

Removed # from sdtv_mode=2 config.txt

Any thoughts?

    Be aware that the output quality and resolution will be greatly inferior.

    And did you press '3' to output to composite video when booting NOOBs for the first time?

    If you have an Oscilloscope use it to see if the video signal is present.

    RPi requires configuration to output composite video.

    I don't have an RPi3 to try this but it sounds like you are close:

    • if you press the 3 key repeatedly during boot it generates PAL
    • if you press the 4 key repeatedly during boot it generates NTSC

    Maybe it doesn't catch it every time, so you may need to do it a few times - I don't know if it is better to hold the key down or push it repeatedly.

    It should automatically boot to composite if the noob.config file is edited to include:

    display_mode=3

    or

    display_mode=4

    What should I be checking in the System File?

    Yes I've pressed 3 and pressed 4 during boot up.

    I don't have an Oscilloscope.

    I'll check this when I get to my office, since I left the Pi there over the weekend.

    I have an alternative, which is just using an HDMI to RCA converter, but would prefer not to confuse my niece with it.

    You should seriously try to get one or a lend of one so you can view the electrical activity.

    The easiest way is to start with a fresh copy of NOOBS.
