As in the title, I'm working on a project with my son making an NES using the Raspberry Pi Zero and integrating it into a Retro Entertainment System. https://i.imgur.com/WkQh28f.jpg
I've opened it up (https://i.imgur.com/nyhAM9d.jpg) and it looks simple enough to remove anything "useless" and get the Zero inside. I want to keep the controller board so I traced everything out (https://i.imgur.com/nNmjFIj.jpg), desoldered the old cable and applied pins in its place for easy cable swapping/testing (https://i.imgur.com/6RoGdN7.jpg). I have everything layed out (https://i.imgur.com/GUeKnCi.jpg) and just about complete. I want to also use the power/reset from the controller board but this is where I'm lost.
From the pinout I traced, P11 would be Power, P12 would be Negative I believe for Power and Reset, and P2 is positive for Reset (if someone doesn't mind checking my work I would be very greatful https://i.imgur.com/hnWczuj.jpg (top is P1)). Again, at this part, I'm lost and could use a little nudge in the right direction being that this is my first project using a Pi. One last question: how do I know the Pi is running w/o the video plugged in? Is there an LED that needs a working image to run or will it turn on regardless if a micro SD card is installed? Thank you all for the support!!!
Edit: Not sure why but when I checked my links out, nNmjFLj.jpg comes up as removed but manually typing it in the address bar works. Not sure if others are gonna see that.
