Nintendo Pi Zero (NPZ) Project Help

As in the title, I'm working on a project with my son making an NES using the Raspberry Pi Zero and integrating it into a Retro Entertainment System. https://i.imgur.com/WkQh28f.jpg

I've opened it up (https://i.imgur.com/nyhAM9d.jpg) and it looks simple enough to remove anything "useless" and get the Zero inside. I want to keep the controller board so I traced everything out (https://i.imgur.com/nNmjFIj.jpg), desoldered the old cable and applied pins in its place for easy cable swapping/testing (https://i.imgur.com/6RoGdN7.jpg). I have everything layed out (https://i.imgur.com/GUeKnCi.jpg) and just about complete. I want to also use the power/reset from the controller board but this is where I'm lost.

From the pinout I traced, P11 would be Power, P12 would be Negative I believe for Power and Reset, and P2 is positive for Reset (if someone doesn't mind checking my work I would be very greatful https://i.imgur.com/hnWczuj.jpg (top is P1)). Again, at this part, I'm lost and could use a little nudge in the right direction being that this is my first project using a Pi. One last question: how do I know the Pi is running w/o the video plugged in? Is there an LED that needs a working image to run or will it turn on regardless if a micro SD card is installed? Thank you all for the support!!!

Edit: Not sure why but when I checked my links out, nNmjFLj.jpg comes up as removed but manually typing it in the address bar works. Not sure if others are gonna see that.

Well, a little update on this. I'm going to be tackling the power surely, however I have been able to answer some of my own questions. I have the Raspberry Pi working, after finding a bad SD card. I have the controller working using the NES Port as well. One thing I did find out is that depending on what controller I am using I may have to swap out the data 1 pin and the clock pin. I might later on down the road rig up some switch in the event I have to use a different controller that would require those two pins to be swapped however at this time it's not a major issue. I will post some pictures after I finish doing some errands but I'm happy that this is off to a great start after doing trial and errors.

This is the setup I am using for my project. I have not taken a picture yet but I'm using pain two on the controller board and running that to the pi. That is giving me a perfectly working reset button. I am trying to figure out how to get the second controller working but have not been successful. I can get the pi to acknowledge two controllers but I cannot configure it.

I finally got the controllers working, power switch good, reset working, and a complete project. I'll do my own write-up soon but I was able to research and figure out the issues. This topic can be closed.
