Pidesktop headless

dagv
dagv over 7 years ago

I tried to set up the PiDesktop headless, but did not succed.

Here's what I tried:

Had a running mSD card, and logged inn via ssh.

Cloned the mSD card to SSD with dd. The cloning

went well.

Changed the /boot/cmdline.txt to boot from sda2.

Bot no boot.

What procedures exist to set up in CLI?

You should be able to edit the file again on PC / MAC remove that line. To get it back to where it worked. Not sure which version of Pi or OS you are using.

I believe the newer Jessie Builds have broken /boot/cmdline.txt to boot from sda2

Here are some tutorials to help boot from SSD

    Tank you for the answer.

I was using the latest Raspbian Lite which is based on Stretch.

I was able to edit the cmdline.txt to get back, but still I have not solved my problem.

I was following the instructions for installing the PiDesktop with mSSD and setup a

boot to the SSD. But since Raspbian Lite is a headless install, the ppp-hdclone cannot

be used. I used ssh to log into th Pi.

Thus I tried to copy on the CLI with dd. But the proper setup (config) I did not find

    a proper way of doing.

    Yes, thank you.

I settled with (not the best) solution to keep the SD card and only added the SSD.

I formatted the SSD and now mount it as /home, thus having about 120GB for the

    home directory.

It will do for the time being, and the PiDesktop is running as a headless server on Raspbian Lite,

which was what I aimed for.
