Help needed with official Raspberry Pi 7" touchscreen.

Hello all.

I do hope someone can help as I haven't the foggiest what to do about this. I have three screens, all running PiCore player. My eldest screen not longer is touch sensitive at the top of it. The middle of the screen is fine, as is the bottom but the top centimetre and a half is dead. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have remounted the screen several times, even swapped componants out but I am at a loss. Any help?

Thank you.

    Hi Graeme,

Have you checked the flat flex that is attached to the touchscreen and ensured it is inserted straight and the connector lock is in the locked position?

See the fourth photo here: Raspberry Pi 7” Capacitive Touch Display: Assembly and Enclosure

The connector has a darker plastic portion which is the lock.

You can rule out everything apart from the display/touchscreen/controller product if the same issue appears on a known working Pi, software and power supply combination, by swapping the unit temporarily, is that what you've done when you mention swapping components?

    Hello.

I've swapped the flat cable and the circuit board for the touchscreen itself. Still the same problem. Quite frustrating as the only way to complete the setup is to use the top couple of centimetres of the screen. The screen it self is quite a few years old now. Cannot seem to find any similar problem online. The only conclusion I can come to is that there must be a micro crack in the digitizer itself. Not something I can see though. Very weird.

Sounds like it needs calibrating. I'm not sure of the 'right' procedure for this unfortunately.
