Small area location tracking?

Former Member

Hello Element 14 community,

I was looking for some help in regards to the Raspberry Pi.

I was curious if it is possible to track the location on a mobile phone using bluetooth or something similar.

This would only be in a home, so it wouldn't require long ranges and I would use multiple Pi's.

Also if someone knows if there are any Bluetooth modules available for the Pi that would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance.

All this location determination via Wireless is a rather inexact science. If your location is in the open you may still be able to use GPS(unlikely and probably not accurate enough).

You could also set up a set of WIFI APs in each room on lower power setting so your phone could use the relative powers of each AP to approximate location. This gives an advantage that you are also providing a method for the data to be sent back to a central source. Bluetooth may be an option but you really need to first ascertain how accurate a position you require.

I'm afraid the only answer really is to try it out, and at this point  you become the expert in your particular application.

    Good luck with your project
