The Raspberry Pi's Operating system

When listening to the videos about the Raspberry Pi I hear them saying that Linux is the system they are installing this product on.  I am  Windows XP, Windows 7 / 8 user and do not have a Linux box.  How do I get around this ?  I've already received the product.

    Hi Jean,

     

    You do have a Linux box now : ) The Raspberry pi is a Linux box. It can communicate to your existing Windows or Linux devices (in your home network or any devices across the internet too), using a connection which can be Ethernet or wireless.

     

    I guess you're planning to plug in a keyboard and monitor/TV to use the Raspberry Pi like a conventional PC/laptop? (there are other ways to use it).

     

    If so, there are some videos to start you off here. Together with the quick start guide (PDF downloadable by clicking on the diagram on the raspberrypi.org page) (worth reading in it's entirety first before trying to follow it step-by-step) these may be two good methods to get started.
