overrun on arecord

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

I'm trying to do some recordings from the Wolfson audio card. I tried both the SPDIF in and the Line In, and I'm getting every 45 sec or so a overrun on arecord. They last from 20 ms to 60 ms.

Anyone knows why is that? How to fix it?

The SD card I'm using is a 16 gb class 10.

The image I installed on the SD is the one that's working out of the box with the Wolfson drivers.

Thanks for your help.

    What settings are you using?

Does changing bit rate make a difference?

    Try increasing the buffer size.

Are you recording raw or compressing on the fly?

    What is the CPU loading?

Are other processes loading the SD card?

Do you get the same thing if you record to ram drive /run/shm? (It's only 75MB )

Try benchmarking your SD card. See Raspberry Pi • View topic - SD Card Benchmarks

Hey, just with your questions, I tried different things, and it works good now. I'm recording directly to a usb memory and the overruns just disappeared.

    Thanks for your help.

I do have, but, another problem now.

I recorded something coming out of my Tascam soundcard, and the recording from the Wolfson is not lasting exactly the same. The recording is shorter in time.

I then checked the playing sample rate and the recording sample rate, and they were exactly the same, 44.100.

However, I tried to record at 48.000, still playing at 44.100, and the recording is closer in duration from the original, but still not exact (but much much closer). It is still shorter.

I guess, the clock isn't as precise as it should be? Just guessing here...

Of course, on the recorded file the pitch is higher, as it is faster (lasts less).

I want to try another power supply, but that will be tomorrow. I hope anyone has a clue there.

I will keep my progresses posted.

    Thanks again
