No display using RCA composite video connector

Question

Hello,

I have recently purchased a Raspberry Pi and have set it up as follows:

At the TV end I have:

I have installed in my first attempt a Kali linux distribution from Download Official Kali Images | Kali Linux Official Documentation which failed and then I downloaded the

NOOBs Lite from Downloads | Raspberry Pi. When I powered on my TV in both cases I have the following result:

Similarly for source = AV1, DVD, SVHS, TV I get the same screen.

This is my connector:

Kindly help me out.

Sorry for replying so late I was downloading this image : NOOBS Offline and network install. The good news is that it worked (pressing 3 was all I had to do). I am grateful for your help @crosseyejack and @shabaz.

What HDMI to Composite Video cable are you using? It will help better figure out if the cable is compatible

If you are going to use that cable then you miight need to force HDMI mode. Have a read of Raspberry Pi • View topic - Force HDMI, even if booting w/out HDMI connected You will also need to set a resolution that will match what your TV is expecting though its composite video input, check out RPiconfig - eLinux.org for a list of the video modes you can set the HDMI port to.

And because I have to ask, if you are going to connect the PI using composite video why not just use the composite video out provided by the pi?

If you are now using an RCA to RCA cable rename config.txt back to something like config.bak (The config file is optional and is created by NOOBS anyway iirc) and if you like re unpack the NOOBS files on to the SD Card just to make sure you have a "Clean" install to work from. As shabaz says BREFORE YOU POWER The Raspberry Pi plug in a USB Keyboard and hold down either the Number 3 or 4 key and power the Raspberry Pi (3 for PAL TV's, 4 for NTSC TV's it all depends on the country you are in. Try 3 first as NTSC TV's will try and display something if given an PAL signal but PAL TV's can not normally handle NTSC signals). Hopefully you should see the NOOBS Setup up screen, at this point you can release the number key you have held down and be able to carry on as normal.
