Both units will not "see" the wifi dongle...Yet in my old old raspberrypi B - the wifi dongle is seen and I am able to logon to the wifi network.. Is there a fix ? And, did the b+ get shipped with this problem?

Hi baker195,
You haven't confirmed whether or not you updated your (I'm assuming Raspbian or NOOBS) installation.
You need to make sure that your linux installation is up to date so that your B+ is supported. If you already have a B and just swapped the SD Card over, you're going to have problems. So as fvan has said, and also Eben Upton said in the webinar he did on the website. You need to
apt-get update; apt-get upgrade; apt-get dist-upgrade
At the terminal.
If you install RaspBMC it may not be up to date to work with the B+ yet. OpenELEC though, I think is.
Hope this helps.
I know it is annoying, but if you can't get this one to work element 14 sells a wwifi dongle designed specifically for pi. It costs about 10 pounds sterling.
baker195 , ok, thanks for humouring me.
Now what is the make and model of the WiFi dongle you're using ? Does anything else work when you plug it into the USB port(s) such as a keyboard or mouse ?
ok baker195 , if you insert the Edimax dongle (you didn't say what the model is for it, there's more than one Edimax dongle) can you bring up a terminal and type:
lsusb
This should tell you about each of the devices connected via USB; can you either copy and paste the information here (by say, connecting to the internet via ethernet on your B+ and logging in to the element14 site), or type it out ?
This will help to identify what model of USB dongle you have and it'll help to direct you to what driver you need to have (or have loaded) on the system.
Also if you type:
dmesg
After you unplug and re-plug your WiFi dongle in, you will also see the system detect what you plug in and it will tell you the model and if it's setup correctly to some extent.
Ok the edimax is 7392:7811 LTd EW 7811Un 802
maybe i need drivers? but I bought this edimax with the b+...
thank-you for your time and help with this matter !!

Ok, so from that I would assume it's a:
ID 7392:7811 Edimax Technology Co., Ltd EW-7811Un 802.11n
The driver for this is:
rtl8192cu module
You can see if this is loaded by your linux distribution either by running dmesg as I suggested and checking if it recognises the device when you plug it in; or by running:
lsmod | grep 8192
At a terminal.
You say you bought it with the B+ ; was it bought as a combination pack with it? if so, where from ?
This blog post suggests that the drivers should already be in the Raspbian distro: How-To: Add WiFi to the Raspberry Pi | Raspberry Pi HQ so I suggest you follow those steps and check your configurations.
Thank-you. Will check to see if computer see's the dongle wifi within the hour

When I type in the dmesg - I get a long list of code...but it loads fast/scrolls not able to see the first ffew lines...as it off screen...when I type in the ismod | grep 8192 ( must not be typing it correclty?) is get -bash: ismod: command not found
Im very sure I bought the raspberrypi B+ through element 14 storefront... maybe the dongle is in need of update?
the wifi dongle is a realtek rtl8188cus
I changed monitors ...ran lsusb and raspberry pi does see the realtek dongle !!
What to do next?
baker195 , it's lsmod not ismod , it's an L not an i
As for dmesg, you're interested in the last lines. Not the first lines. The last are the most recent; and these change when you run the command, then when you insert your USB WiFi adapter the last lines will change again when you run the command again.
I don't know what you mean by element14 storefront. The pushed and recommended WiFi adapter to use with the Raspberry Pi is always the element14: WiFi USB Dongle for Multiple Development Platforms which is the WiPi.
