Hi what do I need to purchase -- I want to be able to use this to demo node.js application on linux platform using the Raspberry PI

Question

I want to be able to use this to demo node.js application on linux platform using the Raspberry PI.

It will be handy to bring along the raspberry PI. for demo but I am not a hardware person, so many acessories and stuff

What do I need to purchase? I always just use a laptop or desktop where everything is ready to go for me.

Hi,

If you're familiar with working in a command shell with Linux already on your PC, then it is no different when using the raspberry pi (RPI). You can secure shell into the RPI if you plug it into your network. In this mode, the RPI looks a lot like a conventional server.

Otherwise, if you wish to use the RPI in a desktop mode, then you can plug in a keyboard and mouse and connect a TV to it to use as a display. This is unnecessary usually if you already have a laptop or desktop.

Since I already have a laptop or desktop, I just plug the RPI into the network, and log on from my laptop/desktop into the RPI.

If you're not familiar with Linux, consult the magpi online magazine, this should help you if you spend some time browsing. Otherwise there are textbooks on Linux but unfortunately I don't know the names of any recommended ones.

The RPI is a little picky about certain bits of hardware, so unless you're prepared to spend time researching compatibility, you should try to purchase compatible parts. They can be found here. At a minimum you need the RPI, a microSD card and a power supply and a network cable or WiFi adapter. If you think you already have some usable bits, confirm compatibility at this URL.
