Has Anyone perhaps done a RFID Race Timing or similar project in the past?

Has Anyone perhaps done a RFID Race Timing or similar project in the past? If so, will you please share? I am a Race Director for a community totally free timed race, and would like to put together a very inexpensive RFID Race Timing Kit that could be replicated all over our hosted runs. I would essentially like to use Raspberry Pi and or Arduino and associated accessories and components.image

    Yunus,

I like the overall idea. There may be issues when more than one racer crosses the line nearly same time. The RFID can tell who is nearby but cannot tell when they cross the line. How far will they be from tag? Logistically how will tags be registered?

Thank you for your response clem57 . The tags would be pre-registered to a specific runner/racer, and would be either on a bib-tag or a floppy-tag on the runner's shoe, which range from 300mm to 1125mm from the detecting antenna. And the modern day reader is capable of reading 200-1000 tags per second.

    Any ideas perhaps?

So at the max value of 45 inches draw a circle. Setup one on each side of the finish line. Now you are limited to 90 inches or about 2 1/2 yards under perfect conditions. Just trying to think this over in my mind.
