Rsspi 4B Speaker codec

Oh my goodness, why is this so difficult. I have been dredging through forums looking for the right way to get sound out of a IqaudiO Zero Codec Hat. I using a mono speaker connected to the terminals.

Is it ok the speaker specs are below the Recommendation? Iqaudio zero states 8ohms at 1.2w. I connected a 8ohm 0.5w. 

Alsactr restore - f never works. GitHub installs Pi-Codec in the /home directory. I think I am supposed to move that file to /Etc/alsa/asound.  that has not worked.

i have gone into Raspi-config and changed the IS2 audio option. I am confused why it shows 2 options but when I run Aplay - l i get 3 cards found. 

I have #Dtoverlay audio on. 

I'm beginning to think I should just buy a bigger codec card or more one that is currently supported. . what would you recommend?

I know I want the speaker to be loud enough for my kid to clearly hear the audio files. I want him to have 2 different buttons to push that are connected to the same program that will play 1 random audio file from a list

 A third button will be dedicated to playing the same audio file but also be connected to some LEDs. 

I am still learning, I have no previous experience with PCBs or writing Code. this has been alot of fun. I look forward to reading your comments

    This is not really needed. Even a cheap card will work for the application, for instance this one:

    It will directly wire to the Pi's I2S connections. The info to use it is here:

    The quality will be far higher than discernible from a little mono speaker.

    The board you're using is complicated enough that it may need configuration of a driver, plus it will be underused for the application, for the cost. The simpler I2C boards are easier to get going as can be seen at that web link.

    The more expensive audio cards are more for music applications (where hi-fi quality is desired, although it's debatable if they are that good) or if you need mic or line inputs too.

    Alternatively, the Pi 4 has a built-in audio output (3.5 mm socket), so any analog audio amplifier will work (and cost just a couple of $ max).

    The 3.5mm output plus amplifier will have a high quality output will work very well with a typical small mono speaker, as will the I2S board shown above (it is a very popular, common board).

    If it were me, I'd go for the cheap MAX98357 board, or, if I didn't have that, then a simple amplifier connected to the 3.5 mm socket.

    after writing to a customer driver file, deactivating other audio cards and them making my Hat the Default device... soo much fun.. I got my MOSFETs in the mail. Let it Rip...
