Since Android is just a disguised form of Linux, you might try checking out http://www.linuxfromscratch.org and go to the beyond section for an instruction on installing SSH.

    This is a Teachable Moment:

RS wrote>>...I'm using windows 7 and im getting error from putty even after successfull pinging of pie...

    -----

    then describes further his situation.

    ______

then RS writes>>...I installed kikat on pie and also verify by using HDMI monitor but now i want to connect it to my pc using ssh connection

USCDADNYC reply>> Ambiguous when taken in context w/ the first two sentences. Was the installation of KitKat an attempt to Troubleshoot the Problem? OR was it (in this case), an explanation of Initial H/W, S/W Set-up?. I'll say it again, Context is Everything.

Perhaps it should have been worded "...I [had] installed Kitkat [initially] on pie...."?

AAR this begs the following Q: why Android on RaspPi? There is more support for Raspbian/Minibian.

And to JC: And Linux originated(?) from Unix (an AT&T product- my old old employer-many years ago)

rockko If you have KitKat on Raspberry Pi which is Android, it by default has no software to act as a server of SSH requests. So go to Google Play apps and selected your favorite or having none you can choose the link above in my post to get one. Once installed, you should be able to use Putty on Windows 7. Unfortunately most comments here assume you had Rasbian based software which is different.

Been off the grid for a few days... Now that I am back I can respond a bit to what has been said.  uscdadnyc has to follow his history, to see that UNIX was an AT&T product with extreme cost unless specifically for education, mostly because the US federal government had a tight grip preventing an OS (not viewed as part of communications) from being marketed.  While at university, Linus became enamored with UNIX and decided to develop a multi-threading kernel with the same features found in UNIX (everything is a file, and all IO is either serial or block) calling it Linux, and aims it to support GNU tools.  Lots of people liked it and helped out with making it successful.  Fast forward a bit, and UNIX gets sold to XENIX, XENIX sues Linux over infringement and looses (mostly because they stole stuff too). Sun rises and sets image.

I know about all this stuff because I lived through most of it.  My dad worked at "The Labs" in the '60s, After we moved back to Michigan, dad drove Scott McNealy to Scout meetings. My brother and I were in band with him and Barry (his brother).  I was on the project where the issues with XENIX might have started (lawyers were trying to make a bad case for more money).

Android is a Linux extension (because UNIX wasn't available). rockko  Android on RasPi is a good example of why RasPi was created in the first place, to provide a great platform for experimentation.

To JC: Woulda Coulda Shoulda. Nice to go down Memory Lane singing Bruce Springsteen's "Glory Days". I was at AT&T b/f Divestiture (1984?). It was a different world w/ the then Technical/Legal/Regulation Environment. Back then I was an Engineer/IT person. Now I am a (US) Patent Atty, who can look retrospectively at Decisions w/ a knowledge of Legal/Business factors that I did not know then. Woulda Coulda Shoulda. BTW didn't Novell(sp?) also own Unix at one time?

AAR back to to situation at Hand. I ask AGAIN why Android on the RaspPi H/W Platform? Why re-invent the Wheel? If Raspbian is sufficient?

Sometimes, it is necessary for people to learn from their own mistakes. Kind of the "can lead a horse to water" situation.  I agree completely, about why reinvent the wheel here, and Raspbian would get to the solution quicker.  But then, why replace relays with digital switches.  Occasionally, a different answer provides a better solution, it can also cause a spectacular failure, but we never know unless someone is willing to take the chance.

It is about ROI (Return On Investment), the original Poster has a different view of ROI as opposed to our view(s) of ROI . Raspbian vs. Android, on RaspPi. Blast from the Past: AT&T was in a Regulatory/Anti-Trust Environment, that possibly hindered original Unix Language development/distribution. Present-Day WRT Essential Patents (for inter-operative-ability) it is now FRAND (Fair Reasonable, And Non-Discriminatory) licensing of these SEP's

(Standard Essential Patents). Different Time. Different Place. Different Environment.

But Again I ask? Why Android on RaspPi H/W Platform?

I love the person to person story with some key players back then.  So how did you judge the person?
