"connection refused" means that the pi is up and running but there is nobody waiting at the designated port (number 22 in this case).

This would happen for example if the sshd program is not running. Try typing "sudo apt-get install ssh" on the pi.

On 11NOV15, I installed Putty on a Win10-PC. It was gotten at: bit.ly/win32putty. Worked good for me. Have a Rooted-B&N-Nook-HD+ that is running CM11 (Kit-Kat), have NOT tried Putty on this unit (Tablet).

    I forgot to mention that: A  RaspPi 1 B was the object-client of the Putty-client s/w on my Win10 PC. This RaspPi 1B was/is running "2015-02-18-wheezy-minibian" as the O/S.

Seems like a silly question to ask, so, since I am feeling a bit silly... Did you go into configurations and turn on the SSH component on the Pi?  It is located under the advanced features.  I like to use sudo raspi-config a little better than the GUI because I am really old, and like to feel the command line when I am working on computers.

    Jack.

Not a problem, Pi B1 or B+ work the same. Just run sudo raspi-config and select advanced features and SSH to activate SSH login.  You can also turn on the serial interface to make it completely operational from PuTTY.

I think the problem is he is running Android Kit Kat on his pi, as he semi stated in the OP. The normal debian/raspbian instructions are not going to work. A couple of people have given him direction in that aspect. I have no experience running android on the Pi, so I can't really help.
