Connect the raspberry pi to HDMI monitor and see if it is struck at some error
The first time I connected the RPI to the monitor,It displayed an input
error because I did not have a keyboard and a mouse. Second time ,even
though it had all the necessary conditions the green light was not visible.

Nothing but blank
Raspbian does not show an error if there is no keyboard or mouse, Windows may but not Raspbian, it expects this to be a common and normal thing.
Are you sure it was not due to something else ?
To KS & PO: In a Rpi-Zero, I got Raspian-w/ Pixel GUI to display on the HDMI W/O having a Keyboard and/or Mouse connected. Remember this was on a RPi-Zero. BTW I went through Three OTG Adapters b/f I got one to work. Now I have: RPi-Zero -TO- OTG Adapter-TO-Powered Hub-TO-USB Keyboard & USB Mouse. IF anybody wants the Make & Model # of the OTG that worked for me, I will post it if asked.

Yes, thats what I was basically saying. You do not need a keyboard and mouse connected to boot a PI... ANY PI.
