Hello,
What does it happens after you insert the dongle in one of the USB of your PI ?
(Please, provide what PI model and the operating system you have installed on it).
Supposing that you have this issue with the Raspbian distribution on a PI 2, first of all from a terminal execute the lsusb command. You should expect to see your dongle detected anyway, with a response similar to the following:
Let us know what is your.

Well,
so the dongle is recognised correctly in your system. The problem as I supposed is 90% depending on the settings. You should sorry me but here it is night and I am not so lucid to give you a good example on how to setup your wireless network. I will update your post tomorrow morning.
Enrico
Thanks man. It will sure help me a lot.
Enrico?
It's here
Sorry for the delay but there was some trouble here ...
Well. The point is that your hardware is OK. And IMO this is a great starting point. There are two things that maybe useful to do first of all, the first is the command ifconfig and then please paste here what do you read. The second is to set in the desktop environment the visibility of the wireless network connections. Then, you can provide your adsl wpa and start connecting the PI to the Internet.
The ifconfig gives us information if your dongle is also identified as a network peripheral or if you see the ethernet only. In this moment I am installing a Raspberry with a WiFi (different dongle but it does no matter), so I can be more helpful in few time with a similar situation like yours in front of me.
Let me know.
Enrico
So what you are saying is that my dongle is supported?
the ifconfig only gives me the eth and loopback.
I don't see the dongle there.
Hello,
This is the information that I needed. The point is: your dongle is saw and identified correctly as a WiFi USB dongle in the /dev list but in the meantime it seems that some driver for this specific device is missing.
Let me investigate, this evening I am here working and I can spend some time on this problem. Hopefully we should arrive to at least at a conclusion.
Hello, please take a look to this link: https://answers.launchpad.net/wicd/+question/216754 it seems useful to do a try to what it suggest.
