Pi Desktop install gives me this message

I am trying to get my Pi Desktop to work. I did the removal of the old desktop, bu then when I went ot run the install for the new desktop, while in the directory with the file in question, I get this:

 

(Reading database ... 137322 files and directories currently installed.)

Preparing to unpack pidesktop-base-1.1.0.deb ...

Unpacking pidesktop-base (1.0.0) over (1.0.0) ...

Setting up pidesktop-base (1.0.0) ...

Failed to enable unit: File embest-shutdown.service: No such file or directory

Failed to enable unit: File embest.service: No such file or directory

 

Can someone shed any light on why I get this erro ,when the instruction mentions no problem?  The removal went ok, but the install fails.

 

The command is :  pi@raspberrypi:~/Downloads $ sudo dpkg -i pidesktop-base-1.1.0.deb

 

Thanks for any help with this error, and getting my pi desktop to work.

  • Not sure how much I can help on this one. Quick glance shows what it is trying to do is setup Hardware Clock.

    Wondering if maybe just manually remake the files? Or likely just reflash and start from scratch?

  • I had the same errors.  It turned out to be caused by following the written instructions that came with the pi-desktop and downloading and installing pydesktop.deb.  When that did not work research brought me to this website which said to download and install the newer version with sudo dpkg -i pidesktop-base-1.1.0.deb.  This yielded the same error that you are getting. Once I did a sudo dpkg -r pidesktop-base and a sudo dpkg -r pidesktop-base-1.1.0 and then did another install with sudo dpkg -i pidesktop-base-1.1.0.deb it all installed OK.

    I am not that experienced with all this.   I was trying to set up a Pi-Desktop with a 1TB KingSpec msata set to boot from the SSD.  The msata checks out fine on linux desktop but I could not get it to reliably and consistently boot.

    Search this site for hoopsurfer or go to:  https://github.com/hoopsurfer/pidesktop He has done a fork of the pidesktop package and at least for me it is working better.  Still regardless of what I did I could not get the KingSpec 1TB msata to consistently boot so I followed hoopsurfers instructions for berryboot and used a 32gB short USB flash drive to install Raspian on and formated the msata drive as an ext4 drive for additional storage.  Should note I am using a Pi3B+, have a correct official 2.5A power supply (several actually), did all the setup tricks correctly but none of those produced a consistent ability to boot directly from the msata ssd.  Working good the way I have it set up now though which will be fine for me.
