Is there warranty on the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ ?

tkwan98@hotmail.com
tkwan98@hotmail.com over 6 years ago

Hi,

I purchase the Model B+ last month from Amazon and now when I turn it on, the red light diode comes on but not the adjacent green light diode.

When I connect by ethernet, the ethernet jack light does not come on, so I cannot talk to the motherboard via internet (after installing a micro SD for the o/s).  Everything worked earlier, now it stops for ethernet connection.

Can I return it to element14 for another mother board?

Thanks

This is the element14 community forums - most of us do not work for element14 so we can't directly advise on warranty issues or returns. For this, you should contact your place of purchase - if you purchased it from Amazon, then Amazon is responsible for customer service and not element14.

However, the lack of blinking from the activity LED suggests to me either one of two things -

    • That the microSD card may not be properly inserted. Remove the card, check the contacts and then push it back in all the way until it clicks and latches.
    • The microSD card may have become corrupted due to software issues, unsafe power removal, or unstable hardware (overheating/overclocking).

To rule out the possibility of a corrupted microSD card, I would suggest you download the latest image for the distribution (e.g. Raspbian) you would like to run and write it to the card following the instructions from the Raspberry Pi Foundation. Please follow the instructions carefully, as having an improperly formatted card which is not bootable will result in the same symptoms, and for the most part, Raspberry Pi boards are fairly reliable.

There is also a slim possibility of a power supply that is very noisy or weak, so perhaps you can try another 5V/2A or above power supply.

    - Gough

EDIT: shabaz beat me to it.

Amazon claims no warranty and defers to element14.  The micro SD is fine - I insert it in another B+ motherboard and it works.  Everything else other than the motherboard works fine with a different B+ motherboard.

I wasn't sure whether anyone from element14 would answer.

    Thank you both.

You can check out the Amazon return policy:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?ref_=v_sp_return_help&nodeId=15015721

I have not had problems with returns that came direct from Amazon.  According to the link above, most third part sellers have similar policies but you can check that out.
