There's dedicated hardware for lots of things, but I'd certainly be interested in seeing if the Pi3 can be put to this kind of purpose -- my NAS is getting kind of old, and uses a lot more juice than a…

Exactly Spanner Spencer. The Raspberry approach was chosen because it could fill my need at a very low cost, and with low power (I haven't look at the power consumption of other NAS hardware). I haven…

Yes Chris. to be honest the software RAID under Linux has surpassed the speed of the HW implementations for years at least under x86 ... Obviously the ability to off load that function to some H/W is good…

According to the datasheet for the Broadcom BCM2835 available here,

The External Mass Media Controller (EMMC) is an embedded MultiMediaTm and SDTm card interface provided by ArasanTm. It is compliant to the following standards:

    • SDTm Host Controller Standard Specification Version 3.0 Draft 1.0

    • SDIOTm card specification version 3.0

    • SDTm Memory Card Specification Draft version 3.0

    • SDTm Memory Card Security Specification version 1.01

    • MMCTm Specification version 3.31,4.2 and 4.4

As per this, Host Controller Standard Specification Version 3.0 Draft 1.0 implies UHS-I bus interface. So, you should be looking for a card that is microSDHC1 I (<32 GB) or microSDXC2 I (>32 GB) when it comes to capacity and Speed Class 10 (C10) or UHS Speed Class I (U1) when it comes to speed.

    Hi,

I got my Pi recently. I wanted to get a high speed MicroSD card for my Pi but I am unable to get any details on what Read and Write speeds are supported by the Pi 3 Model B.

If anyone here has any idea, could you please let me know.

    Thanks.

Please see question below.  I was actually trying to find the operating temperature range as well.  For an "industrial" grade product, one would think the documentation would be up to professional standards.
