The 7” Touchscreen Monitor for Raspberry Pi gives users the ability to create all-in-one, integrated projects such as tablets, infotainment systems and embedded projects. The 800 x 480 display connects via an adapter board which handles power and signal conversion. Only two connections to the Pi are required; power from the Pi’s GPIO port and a ribbon cable that connects to the DSI port present on all Raspberry Pi’s. The display will technically work with the Model A and Model B boards (connecting it to the DSI port on the Pi board), however the mounting holes on the back of the display will only line up with the newer board design (A+, B+, Pi 2 and Pi 3).

How to Install the Matchbox-Keyboard for your Pi

1. Connect a physical keyboard to the Raspberry Pi (or SSH into it if that’s your thing.)

2. Connect to the internet via WiFi or Ethernet.

3. Open the terminal.

4. Type sudo apt-get install matchbox-keyboard

5. Let the program download & install (takes 30s-1min depending on your connection.)

6. Exit the terminal & reboot your Pi.

7. The keyboard can be found by clicking the Menu -> Accessories -> Keyboard.

Operating System Support

In order to be sure you’re running the latest version of Raspbian, connect your Raspberry Pi to the Internet and then open LX Terminal. Type ‘sudo apt-get update’ to download the latest version of the OS. Once that’s complete, type ‘sudo apt-get upgrade’ to apply the download to your Raspberry Pi. That way you’ll have all of the latest drivers and software needed to support the touch screen display.

I get errors after I run "sudo apt-get install matchbox-keyboard"... There are multiple error messages after the message Get:3 http://mirrordirector.raspian.org/raspian/ jessie/main.... it says E: Failed to fetch http://mirrordirector.raspian.rog/raspian/pool/main/libf/libfakekey/libafakey0_0.1-8.1_armhf.deb Size mismatch I ran sudo apt-get update, and I ran sudo apt-get upgrade, then I ran sudo apt-get install matchbox-keyboard, but I still get the same error. Any ideas what I should do to get the on screen keyboard to work?

I just got the Raspberry Pi 7" Touchscreen Display (using it with a Raspberry Pi 3 and the latest Raspbian Jessie) and on the box it says the screen resolution is 800x480. In the System tab of the Raspberry Pi Configuration, it lists the resolution at 720x480.

1) Why is it not going to 800x480 automatically?
2) If I attempt to change the resolution in the System tab, in the dropdown it does not list the 800x480 resolution.
3) Can I actually get the Pi to display 800x480, or is 720x480 it? If I can, how do I change the output to 800x480?
4) if the screen is only 720x480, why does the box say 800x480?

After some searching, I found the answer that works so I'll post it here for others with the same problem. It's not my solution, it is attributed to a user named 'Rasadmin' so thanks. This disables the screen timeout on the 7" display:
Step 1: sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
In that file look for [SeatDefaults]
Step 2: Insert this line:
xserver-command=X -s 0 dpms
Now save the file and re-boot. The display stays lit all the time.

I bought one of these screens some years ago, and it came with a v1.0 controller board that didn't support brightness settings.
Can I ask if this comes with the v1.1 board now?

I wrote a clock program to display time and weather. When I let it run, the 7" display turns off after a few minutes. How can I force the display to stay on all the time?

Internet now stable and on
Ive done an update and upgrade then re installed matchbox keyboard ... all
this time without error messages Ive even rerun matchbox keyboard and it
indicates I have latest version

I have powered down and back up again but it not in the accessory directory
like before , did a seach (matchbox) in root and it not there

Yes, but which distribution/version? Raspbian Wheezy, Raspbian Jessie, Ubuntu MATE, ... etc ?

I would suggest you download the latest Raspbian Jessie and try again: https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/

Im running it again I think its the internet failing over , it now stuck at
unpacking raspberrypi-kernel been there 30 min
