Why Do Some RoadTest Winners Stop Logging In?

19 Mar 2017

It's Sunday morning and I'm catching up on things that I don't always get a chance to do during office hours where I'm in meetings, on the phone, answering questions, etc.

This morning I sent follow up emails to RoadTest winners who have not posted Reviews.

Of the 12 emails I sent, 11 were to RoadTester winners who stopped logging into element14 about one month after their respective RoadTest enrollments closed. The 12th stop logging in a few months after.

The reason for this behavior would be pure conjecture. But  there does seem to be a correlation between not logging in and not writing a review.

All that I can reasonably conclude is now I have to check to see if a prospective winner has logged in and take that into consideration when I offer my recommendations to a supplier.

Are these relatively new members who had perhaps only created an Element14 account recently in order to apply for the road test in the first place? It's sad that you are having to go to these lengths to…

I commented on the use of TM's on your other comment. To grow the community the use of known good members is a great idea, the definition is the issue. Points over time, involvement etc, this does not…

    Don,

I try to use TMs. I welcome their applications. And I do get much better responses with TMs. But I have to balance the needs of the suppliers and the need to offer new people the opportunity in order to grow the community. But clearly, the screening of applicants was not enough. I was unhappy with the application form the first time I set eyes on it. But I chose to work with it and it did not bear fruit. Hence, I am compelled to make changes. These products need to get in the hands of people who really want to do it and respect the gentlemen's agreement (the honor system) despite the T&Cs.

If you are ill, off course I don't expect you to do the roadtest in the timeline I have provided.

But my intuition says that this may not be the cause of every delinquent RoadTest Review.

Get well soon, Very Compact.  I think we all enjoy your unique voice in our community.

    I appreciate your participation.

rscasny I like all this effort, investigation and analysis you are doing to understand how to improve the stats and especially that you are sharing it. It is much appreciated and it is a good omen for the forum when people care.

It would seem to be a natural progression that people who abscond with the goodies aren't going to hang around on the forum to take flack for it. You have made it clear if there are extenuating circumstances all they have to do is drop a note of explanation so valid excuses are probably not the norm.

There may be some who simply create a new account to try for a repeat performance, but I'm not quite that cynical. It seems such behaviour is just as much work and not half as rewarding as participating properly.

Obviously the tough part about analyzing the reasons for dropping out is that the people who actually know are no longer answering questions.

Hopefully some of them will eventually crack and spill the beans. What we need is a couple of good whistle blowers....what would be a good incentive I wonder?? image

I was an unknown Roadtester (XL_STAR - 2011) and still log in.

I have hundreds of design challenge based posts, built and demonstrated many different projects and experiments.

Illness has caused me to cease many of these activities but I do try to contribute with advice and levity.
