Some changes to RoadTest

Hi,

 

Tonight element14 will be upgraded to a newer version of the platform we use. This change gives us the the chance to improve the way we organise RoadTest. I was at a presentation of the new features last night, so I thought I'd pass them on.

 

The current change is to do with entry to RoadTests.Now we have events, which confuse people as they think that it is a physical event. This was the only way I could figure out how to manage tests when I started the group. From tomorrow, there will be a RoadTest tab next to discussions, documents and events. In that tab there is a drop down menu which will let you navigate to the particular test you are applying for. There you will find a button which lets you apply for the test. You will have to complete a form..name, address etc, which then you can then save to your profile (as private) so the next time the form will be filled in automatically.

 

I think that's the basics of it. The first test using the new system will be tomorrow with the ADI RF kit. Do me a favour and try give it a go and let me know what you think here? I think the first time you apply will take a little longer, but after that it should be just as easy as now.

 

The benefits this change will bring are that I don't need to send a pm to each winner for addresses and then copy and paste into a spreadsheet manually (you can imagine how "fun" that was for me when I had to do 50 for one test, and how excited I was when one Product Manager here offered me 200 dev kits image). After the draw I can go onto the entry page, which looks like it does now, and tick the testers. Anyone can see that page and the testers automatically. The entries will be in a form, which means I don't have to wait 2 - 3 weeks to get addresses from testers, and you get the kits much quicker image.

    I didn't imagine that the road-test job was done so... manually.

    Hard work but good job.

    When I only try to think that we all asked you about the packages, shipping, tracking ... .

    Just to let you know that the update was postponed till tonight!

     

    Danteo, yeah, it was totally manual! I should have taken a picture of my desk three weeks ago. It was almost hidden by dev kits!


    Gordon, Posting lists of winners is probablt the most manual part of the process. I've been trying to get a list together over the last couple of weeks..

    Sorry for the delay. We've hit a minor setback and may take us an extra day or two to get this rolled out, but it will be coming imminently. image I'll post again to confirm when it's going live.

    I see there's another box added for material tagged review. So if you are doing a review it would make it more visible if it was tagged. I'll try edit some older ones when I get a sec

    Hi Alistair,

     

    I like it. It is more user-friendly, simple. I think, as much as we use the new changes, we will see pros's  and con's ( if any ).

    I think the second time you will notice it is easier.

     

    It appears there is a bit of a bug. If you choose the RoadTest tab and select a RoadTest it appears to log you out. When you log back in it and go to the RoadTest list it logs you out again

     

    I'm contacting our developers about this, in the meantime if you select apply for a RoadTest on the right hand menu it seems to work as intended. Thanks to Kenny for the bug report and the workaround!

    Couple more bugs for you....

    I've tried this on Safari on Mac and IE on Windows 7, so I don't think it's just me...

     

    1. The Popup List that appears when you hover over   'Groups' at the top of any E14 page has a gap between 'Groups' and the popup - so you can't select anything because the popup disappears (popsdown ?) when you move over the gap!

    2. The 'like' button on each conversation is a wee bit messy.

    3. Sometimes there is no 'reply' button - as though I am not logged in, when the banner tells me I am - this is happening for me in the CadSoft Suggestions forum - maybe it's closed for some reason and it's not a bug really.

     

    Maybe it's just something in my own profile doing this, so I appologise if no-one else is seeing these things.

    I did what you have told but i was not logged out. It works well as expected. Maybe there is something different reason or workaround has just finished and applied.

     

    Tagging is also very nice and i created mine as soon as i see it image

     

    Enrol yourself !!! It is also very nice.Better than Attending, Not Attending, Tentative options.

    Hi Firat - I think you're getting the same results as me - once I was a member of the roadtest it no longer logged me out :-)

    It's a catch-22 situation, you have to be in the club to join the club! :-P
