What Happens If You Agree To But Do Not Complete Your Roadtest Review?

rscasny

I have commented on this topic before, but perhaps it's worth re-running because we have add new roadtesters in the past year.

After I select an applicant to be an official roadtester, I send a notification to do both an availability check as well as to state our policy for people who do not complete reviews:

"Roadtesters who do not complete their reviews will not be eligible to participate in the program in the future."

Now, there are extenuating circumstances such as illness, family emergency, or other life/work change. In these circumstances, if you communicate with myself or my colleague, Sean R, and tell us what is going on, we can give you an extension and notify the sponsor, accordingly.

I want to underscore that while roadtesters get everything for free, there are costs to the sponsor. Their costs are not insignificant. They participate in the RoadTest program because they see it as an investment and good business.

Lastly, if a review is not done, the delinquent roadtester has the kit which could have gone to an applicant who wanted to to do the roadtest review.

I feel this is a fair policy.

I still need to do the completion audit for 2022. But the last time I did it, I believe it was 88%, which is very good.

What was the completion rate in last year? Is there any RoadTest in which all selected RoadTesters failed in last year (thus it was waste of money for the sponsor)?

I believe that everyone wants to review something and if for free, the better.

If someone submits an application, it's because they want to learn and really do the review.

Now, from the time they submit the application and get the confirmation they were selected and when receiving the kit, everything may happen.

I do agree with Randall and if the applicant contacts them and explain the situation, an sure an agreement can be reached.

It's worst of they don't do the road test and say nothing... That's just awfull.

Thank you for the opportunity Element14 gives to everyone

I agree that this is a very fair policy - especially given that all it takes is a little open and honest communication should your life circumstances change.  It's not like your life situation is going to get published for all to see.  The date gets changed and life goes on.

Spot on. I would expect very few issues when dealing with professionals, but nothings perfect.

Well, after delivering "just in time" for the Nordic Semiconductor nRF5340 Audio DK RoadTest, I'm surprised to see that only 2/4 RoadTesters have delivered within the deadline. Perhaps it's the holiday period throwing things off (it certainly added to the challenge for me), but I suppose repeating this message is definitely a timely reminder, rscasny.

Sometimes it does feel a bit quiet looking at the completed reviews list ...

It's certainly a prefectly reasonable and fair policy.

I had a roadtester who contacted me this week that he had to prepare for an unscheduled presentation he had to do and would be a little late with the review. This is fine. We realize our roadtesters are fully employed, independent consultants, professors, run businesses. By communicating with us, we know what's going on and can communicate it to the sponsor, when asked. I also had another roadtester asking me a few more days. This roadtest requires a video. Since videos are a bit more work, I told him to take the extra time. Good communication can be key to the whole review writing process.
