What You Can Do About Our Shipping Problems

rscasny
rscasny over 1 year ago

Lately, I have been getting calls from our shipper, UPS, regarding packages where the address, phone number and/or email is wrong and undeliverable.

What happens is the shipper will try to get a correction for a short period of time. If they are unsuccessful, they will sometimes return it and element14 will have to pay or they will mark it as abandoned and it's just a loss.

I use the address that YOU give me.

If the package is returned to me or marked as abandoned, I will not be able to send you a new one. Moreover, it will be unlikely that I will ship to that address again.

What you can do

1. make sure that you give me and that is on your residential address is accurate and deliverable on your user profile

2. make sure you are using the email address associated with your element14 Community account

3. make sure you are available to be phoned or deal with the shipping problem

If customs contacts you, you should email me about it. You shouldn't have to be dealing with that.

I just received 5 big envelopes from UPS (sent via Canada Post!). (no associated emails or parcels) Each envelope had 3 sheets of paper referred to as a customs brokerage invoice. The invoices ranged…

I'm not sure if this relates to the problem you are trying to solve but it has times been a problem for me.

I live in a rural community 30 minute from a major urban centre. The issues I have discovered.

    1. Won't ship to rural address.

    2. Won't ship to PO Box

3 Won't ship to Canada period

    4. Won't ship to my mail drop box

I have discovered a few work around.

    1. deliver to a friend in city.

    2. leave off the PO Box include with street address  suite number for PO Box

    3. ship to US drop box

    4. add suite #1 to the mail address of the US drop box and the problem goes away

I have never experienced problems with E14 shipping. I have been required to sign for packages but find them on my doorstep no signature required. I confess it appears to be a roll of the dice to what a shipper will or won't do.

One thing I faced previously with a package from element14 was a phone number issue.

When I enter a phone number to any non-local website, I use an international country code. However, once I got contacted by UPS via email after 3 unsuccessful deliveries. I have to state that I had no idea I was going to receive a package at that time (it was a surprise). I was wondering, why the driver didn't call or leave a note, which I found out after replying to the "last call" email and getting the package - they trimmed the phone number to ca. 10 digits, so they had the country code and start of the number, but the the last part. Since that time, I use only local 9 digit phone number.

I haven't receiver an unexpected package from e14 since that date, so I hope I am not on the black list :) My element14 T-shirt is getting worn out :)

The main issue with certain element14 shipments, particularly concerning the Experimenting with Challenges awards, arises when the packages reach customs. At that point, the carrier contacts me to inquire about the shipment's declared value. This crucial information, necessary for smooth customs clearance, is often hard to access. It requires contacting a carrier's agent to request the dispatch note detailing the package's contents to verify the originally declared value. A simple solution would be for element14 to email the dispatch note directly to the recipient.

I've not had any problems receiving shipments from E14.

Here in the UK the delivery companies don't have a great reputation for reliability. I've even caught one quietly popping a "we tried to deliver and you were out" note through the door and he admitted he didn't have the parcel with him.

So far, I have had no issue with any of e14 shipments sent via UPS to India. Slight smile

Interesting. Do you recall receiving an email notification of the shipment?

my local UPS (working as a proxy for customs office) usually makes me translate shipping list from English and/or assign categories (electronic component/development board/hand tool/...)

    Thanks for sharing this information.

I agree that address is a very important thing. And making mistake not good. But as while filling the form for roadtest there is also space for address and in each persons profile there is address as well, there should be no chance for most cases for problems.

I faced problem once but that was with customs. And I have to admit that service of UPS is really really good and professional.

This is exactly my case, UPS is asking me to give them authorization to withdraw a package from customs on my behalf. I am extending a temporary power of attorney to them through the tax agency to collect the package from customs on my behalf. There are no expenses involved as element14 will cover all costs, but Spanish customs requires a signed declaration from me confirming that the declared value is the one indicated on the delivery note. The problem I have encountered is that the declared value on the delivery note does not usually correspond to the amount announced in the contests, prices change and they are usually higher than those announced.
