UPDATE: What do you think of this Debugger, the ULINKplus -- Power-Aware Debugging

When I saw this I thought it was interesting - a multi-core debugger with integrated power measurement and additional test I/O pins allowing you to control automated tests. You can control the processor, set breakpoints, and read/write memory contents, all while the processor is running at full speed.  Nice for ultra-low power applications, sensitive hardware and software validation for getting system and long battery life.  What do you think?

Here's some specs:

  • Wide target voltage range: 1.2V - 5.5V
  • Electrical isolation from the target system is integrated up to 1 kV
  • USB 2.0 High-Speed connection using the CMSIS-DAP debug protocol
  • USB powered (no power supply required)
  • 10-pin (0.05") - Cortex Debug Connector
  • Hot-plugging to running targets

Devices Supported:

  • JTAG support for ARM Cortex processors
  • Serial Wire Debug (SWD) support for all ARM Cortex-M processors
  • Serial Wire Viewer (SWV) support for all ARM Cortex-M processors

Honestly? I have not idea of what is the price but I love it. In an industrial context the engineering lab (firmware coding and debugging) it is frequently stabilised on the company choices to this sort…

My opinion on this will depend very much on the price and the detail of the specification. Current measuring for micros is very, very difficult because of the huge dynamic range needed - ideally at least…

Looks like a good debugging tool. I'd like to know what it's like to control those I/Os via the scripting language, because that would enable it to run automated testing during development and perhaps…

The price I found is $690 USA.

Probably a bit advanced for what I typically do but I can see it being a great aid for troubleshooting pesky problems. I suspect I'll eventually get to the point of inline debugging but mostly I'm in the serial print and flash LED camp.

If the question is, "would you like to see someone road test this" then I'd say yes.

    It does look interesting!

I just recently bought a TI ARM debugger, the XDS110, and although it was a lot cheaper ($100) sometimes I feel it is a false economy, because in comparison the ULINK is probably supported with any vendor ARM chip.

The TI one is supposed to measure current too, but only with a very limited selection of ARM chips. It doesn't use a sense resistor, but apparently measures the DC-DC converter duty cycle.

The reason I purchased it was because it comes with a load of adapters to suit various boards. However, as usual, the connector I want isn't there, so I'll have to spend an hour assembling it : (

A webinar on this product is in the works. I suspect it will happen sometime in November. I encourage you to attend.

What would help is if KeilARM were to publish a proper data sheet. I've spent a while just now on their website and I can't find the current measurement sampling rates or ADC resolution properly specified anywhere.

There is a hint deep in the user instructions that it might be possible to set the sampling rate to 160kHz. It needs 250mV voltage drop for full scale current and offers current ranges in 2.5/5/10 sequence from 2.5mA to 250mA

The problem with webinars is that they are a very expensive use of time - why would I devote an hour when a decent data sheet can be scanned for key features in a couple of minutes ?

I couldn't find any prices for the UlinkPlus

I updated this page to include a link to the ULINKplus webinar. This will be a demo with a live Q&A. It will be worth signing up. This webinar is being hosted by arm.
