How Would You RoadTest This Wireless Power Dev Kit?

rscasny
rscasny over 8 years ago

I'm often contacted my suppliers who are considering to participate in the RoadTest program. They ask me a lot of questions about the program and which products are the best to RoadTest. Well, it depends, right? Test equipment garners a lot of interest. So do SBCs or anything to do with IoT. So when I was contacted about this Wireless Power Dev Kit for a future RoadTest, I looked up what content the community already had on the topic. There is a some content, as expected, since wireless power solutions are only sure to grow. But I don't recall doing a RoadTest on this type of product, or at least recently. I just wondered how it would be RoadTested. So, here's my question: How would your Roadtest it?image

Here's a few facts about the product:

  • It's the result of the joint collaboration of Wurth Elektronik and Rohm Semiconductor.
  • It's used in devices with a large number of mating cycles to avoid connector damage such as smartphones, tablets, portable media players.
  • It comes with 5 parts: Transmitter module, Receiver module, LED load module, Quick start guide, Power adapter with EU, US and UK adapter.

Here's a few specs:

  • Plug & play wireless power design kit, medium power solution
  • Qi standard version 1.2 compliant with extended power profile
  • Based on the transmitter type MP-A7
  • Excellent performance due to use of litz wire coil
  • Operating temperature range from -20°C up to +105°C
  • Inductance of 12µH at 125KHz/10mA, Q-factor of 33 at 125KHz/10mA
  • Maximum rated current of 3A at ΔT = 40K, saturation current of 6A (typ)

Hi Randall, There was an interesting idea that Monty Chan (aka COMPACT) had during the first wireless road test that I thought was interesting. He did some testing by doing some remote charging through…

    Hi everyone

Great to see there are new people as well as familiar faces engaged in this road test already.

Our new WPC medium power kit is out for a few months now and it´s just getting more and more interesting in terms of the variety of applications.

Looking forward to your ideas and the road test.

    Hi Simon

Im a roadtester on this project and let me say - awesome kit - the packaging etc is amazing and i will show it in my unboxing etc...

    BUT...

I live in Australia and although you have interchangeable power plugs for the power supply for just about anywhere4 on the planet - - there is not one for an AU power plug.... no biggie for me with the roadtest - but it might be worth you guys including it in future evolutions of the devkit.

    just my 2c worth...

    Cheers

    Al

Thank you Al ! I should admit that it is the first time I see this plug. And none of the international traveller plug adapters never included this format image

    Enrico

i know - its funny actually - rarely do you see the AU plugs in travel packs yet we have a huge tourist market here - and a lot of people get here and find their plugs dont work - although most of our hotels now have a standard US adapter built in to the wall..

If Werth and Rohm put an AU adapter into their Dev kit it would be totally complete - because that is ALL that i can see missing from the kit so far..

I look forward to this road test -- if its ok to ask Enrico - what were your plans for the roadtest..

    Cheers

    Al

An increasing number of hotels having USB power sockets too. Perhaps one day they will all have wireless charging coils?
