Did you receive all parts the manufacturer stated would be included in the package?: True

What other parts do you consider comparable to this product?: Avnet Ultra96, MiYR MYD-CZU5EV, Versal AI Core Series VCK190 Evaluation Kit

What were the biggest problems encountered?: Documentation is a bit outdated which complicated some steps. License and licensing software are restrictive at times.

Detailed Review:

I would like to present my current review on the Polarfire FPGA Evaluation Kit (MPF300-EVAL-KIT).

I was one of the three lucky participants selected to roadtest this unique FPGA board, and I am very grateful for having this opportunity.

My review is split into multiple parts (blog posts):

  • Microchip Polarfire FPGA Eval Kit RoadTest - Part 1 Which elaborates on the first impressions, also containing other possibly useful information such as about installing the toolchain on Linux in a virtual machine.
  • PolarFire FPGA Kit RoadTest Part 2 - Microchip/Microsemi vs AMD/Xilinx Comparison of an example design between this board and a Xilinx board (Ultra96)
  • Next? (open-ended): explore a more advanced use case like with a RISC-V softcore, and how it benefits from the unique features mentioned in part 1 (e.g. use the power measurements optimise the softcore design for power, and many more)
