Detailed Review:

Description

The Thermoflagger IC can be used in a simple circuit with positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistors to detect abnormal heat generation in a device. This IC can also use to detect light intensity change with CdS sensor, Pressure with stain gauge element. In present days electronic devices become more sophisticated and dense, the heat generated by internal components is increasing. This challenge underscores the importance of monitoring over temperature to ensure systems are not negatively impacted by severe heat issues. Thermoflagger IC can be used in conjunction with PTC thermistors to detect abnormal heat generation in a simple configuration. 

Working:

Thermoflagger over-temperature detection IC also detects changes in the resistance of PTC thermistors placed near heat sources, and output a FLAG signal in case of over-temperature. When a Thermoflagger detects abnormal heat generation and sends a FLAG to an MCU, for example, the MCU will shut down the equipment or change the operation of the equipment or semiconductor that is generating heat. Connecting PTC thermistors in series realizes over-temperature detection for multiple locations. It's used in the many applications like in Notebook PC, Mobile equipment, home appliance, and industrial equipment.

In the present roadtest TCTH021AE is used to detect over temperature and presence of light with single IC in various applications.

1) Over temperature detection for soldering rod:

Soldering is a process used for joining metal parts to form a electrical bond by many electronic engineers, technicians, students, etc. Solder is a metal alloy usually made of tin and lead which is melted using a hot iron. The iron is heated to temperatures above 60 degrees which then cools to create a strong electrical bond. In this case Toshiba thermoflagger IC will detect over-temperature to check the soldering gun has reached to require level of heat. Once it reach to the desired level of heat then soldering will be easy, thermoflagger will indicate whether the soldering gun has reached to that particular temperature or not. In the below video roadtest I have shown you how to check the soldering gun reached to the temperature to continue the soldering process. When RED color LED glow when soldering gun placed on PTC thermistor (80 deg) indicates the soldering gun is at high temperature. If the temperature is below 60 degrees the BLUE color LED will be lighted and should wait until the RED color glow.

2) Over temperature detection for PAN:

Everyone in home use Fry PAN as a Kitchen utensils to prepare food items like Omelet, toast bread, chapati, dosa, etc. Before going to prepare the food, pan should be heated enough then only the items are placed to get cooked. people find the pan heated to desire level by sprinkling water, other methods. Instead of all those the thermoflagger IC will show you the pan temperature reached to the required temperature and the below video shows the testing done with Toshiba thermoflagger IC.

3) Ambient light detection in Home:

In present days everyone are using LED lighting to their home it can be used for bright lighting, party lighting, etc. In-door lighting can be controlled by the Toshiba thermoflagger IC to detect the brightness of in-door light, it  can switch the lighting system based on the output from the FLAG signal. As the thermoflagger IC can check the light intensity with the CdS sensor and indicate the level of lighting in the room. The roadtest is conducted on the light sensor connected to the Toshiba thermoflagger IC which is shown in the below video.

4) Vehicle light detection:

The Toshiba thermoflagger IC can also use in the out-door application and for vehicles head light illumination. During night time the vehicles head lamps are used for lighting, when moving speed people use the HIGH beam when the approaching vehicles are in front then the LOW beam should be dipped to make the path clearly visible to the approaching vehicles. The vehicle Head Lamp HIGH beam and LOW beam can be adjusted based on the approaching vehicle beam light intensity using Toshiba thermoflagger IC. In the below video the thermoflagger IC response is roadtested and shown for the HIGH and LOW vehicles light beams.

Conclusion:

Toshiba thermoflagger IC has fast response when compared to the other switching ICs in market. It consumes less power, small size can be used in handled gadgets and wearable devices. It can be used in wide applications in Household, medical, industrial, vehicles, electronic devices to perform the switching action for over-temperature, light, pressure.
