I had applied to a couple RoadTests this year, altho I applied to alot more last year.
My perception is alot of the Road Test products this year seemed to need advanced skills in embedded systems.
There also was one Road Test that the software tools requirements exceeded the capabilities of my PC.
I've also noticed in my STEM clubs (Robots, Python, Linux, Makers, Azure, 3D printing, radio, etc) with all the Covid restrictions at home-work-school, only online meetings, constant panic mode media & politics, .......enthusiasm and energy for doing projects seems really depressed this year. Halloween is always a really fun time for animatronic and animation projects -- this year seems a big disappointment in my view. Perhaps there is a correlation from covid burnout to Road Test applications.
If I apply for a roadtest I'd be excited for it, and have a use for the board, or else it's just saying here's the board, you can test it and don't pay us anything, roadtest is, test and review the board, then you can use it for yourself.
I'm in a roadtest, the one for the Maxim Integrated EV kit, the feather is quite nice, and... totally not the reason why I applied.
Other: currently road testing something else Although if I weren't, I would probably answer Lack of Time brought about by Lack of Skills with some of the road tests, especially those that require learning a new stack or framework to properly test.
